Goodbye Cancer!

It was there, always on our minds, never letting us breathe right.  The beast thought it would get the best of us, but the beast has never met my sister.  My amazingly brave and strong sister conquered and got rid of the thing that was threatening to take her from us.  IT'S GONE Y'ALL!!!!!!!!!!!  Of course, the idea of it will always be lurking.  As my friend Alicia said: "It's never really over MC.  Every phone call, every regular appointment, every single time you hear that phone ring, you're going to wonder if it's come back."  Well I'm going to keep up thinking only positively and just know in my heart that's gone FOREVER.  She may still need some preemptive chemo so that she can stop any possible unwanted comebacks.  Preemtive definition : Done before others can act: Done before somebody else has had an opportunity to act so making his or her planned action pointless or impossible.  She may also not need ANY. That's the next thing we're waiting on...

Now to the boys... ZACHARY IS OFFICIALLY A WALKER!!!!!!!!!! Click here to watch how freaking adorable he is... Zachary's walking video.  It went so quickly!!  Between Monday and Tuesday, the difference was incredible.  On Monday he would take like 10 tiny little steps, almost moving an inch between each step and Tuesday, he was a full on walker... We're so proud of our little guy!

That must have been one of the only happy nights of the week because starting on Wednesday, shit started going downhill... and I meant to pun... The boys started getting sick one after another and it hasn't stopped since.  On Wednesday after bath night, Jacob snuggled up to Gabe and didn't move for like 5 minutes.  He was acting super tired (which is unusual for him).  He looked like he did last Friday after he hit his head and threw up.  We didn't think too much of it as we just assumed he was super tired.  Well just before my father in law Claude went to put him down to bed, our little man just lost his supper all over him.  I grabbed him quickly and he threw up again all over me in the bathroom.  He was so scared, as all babies are I guess.  We thought that because it had happened almost a week ago, it may be something he ate at daycare both of those days and he was allergic.  He stayed home on Thursday with my mom and spent all day just cuddling with her (I'm sure she didn't mind as she's leaving again to go to Florida on Thursday so extra snuggles is always welcome!).  He seemed to be doing a bit better the next day so we thought daycare might be a go.  And then... Samuel decides to throw up his yummy smoothie.  It was funny because it actually looked like soft serve ice cream coming out... lol.  So Samuel was staying home and then when I changed Jacob's diaper, it was not pretty so he was going to stay home too.  My in laws decided to keep Zachary home because they were scared he was going to miss his brothers (cute right?).  We thought we would be in the clear because Jacob was fine all day Friday and Samuel threw up a few times and Zachary was a little funny spitfire all day.  NOPE!  Zachary decided to join his brothers on Saturday morning... Ahh!!!!  Zachary got it the worst of them because he couldn't keep ANYTHING down.  Not even water poor little buddy.  Jacob was slowly getting back to his old self and Sam was eating little bits at a time.  He was super clingy but on the mend.  Or so we thought... NOT SO!!  Samuel threw up again this morning, joining his brother Zachary who was still throwing up everything.  We started getting worried about them being dehydrated after all the vomiting and diarrhea so after calling Telecare (again), they advised us to go get them checked out.  So what did we do on our storm day?  ER fun times!  We were there from about 10 to 2 so not to bad in all but it's pretty difficult with two toddlers.  My in laws came to look after Jacob so that was nice.  The doctor gave them some medicine and told us to keep doing what we had been doing.  Yesterday, after talking to Telecare, they had told us to give Zachary 2tsp of Pedialyte every 5 minutes.  Which we did, for three hours!  He kept it all in though so we knew he was getting some hydration.  Anyways, Sam wanted nothing to do with it yesterday but he did well today so they got some fluid in all day and finally gave us some diapers with pee in it (which, as a mother to a sick baby, is cause for a small celebration).  They (and we) had a pretty rough few days and they're all sleeping soundly and have been for about 2 hours so we're hoping for a good night.  With this storm, maybe I'll have a snow day tomorrow and I'll be able to take care of my babies.  If you've ever had a sick toddler, try multiplying this by three and you'll have some idea of what our weekend was like.  I swear Gabe was ready to throw in the towel a few times after Zachary's cramps kept him crying for hours on end and when nothing we could do could console him.  I felt so bad for him... We watched Baby Babble three or maybe four times today, it was the only thing that would soothe them for a little bit.  Even Jacob was difficult as all he wanted to do was be in the kitchen.  He kept going to the gate and doing the eating sign. For two days straight, all day long... He was trying to make up for the two lost no eating days.  Anyways, if you're still reading, sorry for rambling... but what a freaking week!

Before I put up the pics, I want to thank everyone for your prayers, positive thoughts, words, messages and even gifts you've all sent towards my sister.  It worked!  CANCER FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Love you so much sis!!

Jacob feeling a little better but still looking quite tired...

We decided to let them play with Kleenex...

They loved it...

We lost a whole box of Kleenex...

Have you ever tried putting Kleenex back in a box?

Oh well, they loved it, so that's what matters!

Jacob - Mamie Day

They only stayed out for about 10 minutes

The fresh air always does everyone good

How cute is this winter overall we found in a random box?  Thank you whoever gave it to us!!
Hanging out at the hospital

Zach having a little nap in the room

So peaceful... it was a nice relaxing 45 minutes!

All my boys were taking a quick snooze

First thing he had all day that he kept down!  He also had 10 spoonfuls of yogurt for supper!  Progress!!!

This was a rough weekend but I have to say that I still try (and try and try) to keep my chin up because obviously they're not being difficult for no reason, my poor little buddies were (are) sick... so here's to a good week y'all... xox

Walk a mile...

I used to be the woman who would watch and judge as a mother would grab a child by the waist in a store and storm out as their wailing child would try desperately to escape the arm prison they were in. I used to say:  when I'm a mom, I will calmly explain to my child how to behave and calmly diffuse the situation.  I used to be the judgy person who would often say: "when I'm a mom, I will never do blah blah blah...".  Now I find myself either a) doing the things I said I'd never do or b) nodding along as I see something that I will most likely do in the future.  A few days ago I read a post about a mother who is adamantly against formula feeding.  In her opinion, the women who claim they didn't produce enough milk or who's baby was allergic to milk and ended up formula feeding are simply ignorant.  She believes that there are ways around all the problems. For example, she states that a change in diet, nursing on demand, not introducing a bottle too early, etc. are all things that a woman needs to do in order to be able to breastfeed.  Some of her supporters add that essential oil and herbs help, and that those who give up on breastfeeding are self sabotaging and are damaging all future breastfeeding women by feeding them lies.  Anyways, all things that make me cringe.  Those are some of the same words I heard when I had made a decision to formula feed my babies.  The first preemie doctor I dealt with basically told me that Jacob wasn't able to digest his feeds because it wasn't breast milk and that I should really re-consider.  At this point, Jacob wasn't even able to take 1ml, his stomach just didn't know what to do so aside from being scared that my tiny little 3lbs baby wasn't able to digest, I was made to feel like it was partially my fault.  I started pumping that same hour, hoping that I could save my son.  Come to find out that it wasn't the type of food he was getting, because it was still happening with my breast milk, he just needed to be forced to digest, which is what his actual doctor did and he started digesting no problem.  At that point, I had time, so I just kept pumping during their month stay in the NICU.  I honestly would have been ok with them getting simply formula because I knew that I wouldn't have been able to keep it up at home.  Kudos to my triplet mommas who were able to do it, but I can honestly say that if they weren't nursing, they were pumping and they had very little time to do little else.  Maybe I was selfish, and maybe I could have breastfed, God knows I had enough milk but I CHOSE not to and no one should be able to tell me how to mother my children.  We all have our challenges (in my case I had three babies to feed) and formula feeding our children is OK just like breastfeeding our children is OK.  I honestly wish I could have breastfed, because, among other things, do you know how much money we could have saved?!?

I am also a big time advocate for the CIO method (Cry It Out) for sleep training my baby.  Not too long ago, I read a post by someone (who had no children at that time by the way) state that those people who do CIO are stupid, uneducated and should have had to apply for a license before becoming parents.  I'm really sorry but my children have been sleeping through the night (7-7) since they were 4 months old.  They are well rested, they are happy and love their routine.  They did CIO for three nights at most and never for longer than 30 minutes.  Yes, it must have been awful for their little hearts at the time, and I felt awful the whole way through but man are my babies good sleepers now.  I also don't judge those who decide they want to do attachment parenting, that's their CHOICE.  Not the choice I would have made even if I had one baby, but nonetheless no judgement.

My last bit of bitterness about judgy people is about this lady in Carters who judged me that my children didn't have winter coats on.  My children, when we go in our pre-heated and well warmed van to a hopefully heated store, wear layers.  It has been studied and demonstrated that car seats are not safe during a collision if your child has a big bulky winter coat between his body and the straps.  According to consumer reports, it's even considered a dangerous combination.  So no, my children don't wear bulky winter clothing when we are in the van, I want them safe.  If it's especially cold, I'll put a blanket around them.  If we're going somewhere where we will be outside for an extended period of time, I will put on their winter pants over a couple of sweaters and either put their winter coat on backwards once they're already strapped in or again, a blanket.  So lady, F off and read/watch this: Car Seat Safety

I'm sorry to rant and I know that I can't stop the condescending people and if I have to be honest, I am totally and hypocritically one of those women who judge other mothers.  I try to put myself in their shoes, and I sometimes have a hard time but I don't think I will ever write an article about it... maybe I'm wrong and maybe I am just as judgy as those other people but because what I judge makes sense to me, maybe I am just a hypocrite.  Anyways, let's all try to walk a mile before opening our mouths shall we?

My sister is doing well, thanks for caring still.  We are still waiting to hear news on the next steps.

This week was my March Break and my kids went to daycare (yet another controversial subject but since I'm done my rant, I won't go on).  Monday, I had planned on taking a day completely to myself, just doing nothing but watching Season 4 of Downton Abbey without interruption.  Well, my mother changed THAT plan... (love you mom) no big deal, I still had four days.  I was a chauffeur to my mother so I got to spend time with her and also got to spend time with my sister, so the day was a good day after all.  Tuesday, I had already planned to get my baby clothes ready for the big consignment sale coming up in April.  I can get this all done in one day! Nope, phone rings, Zachary has been having some diarrhea so off I go to daycare to get my little man.  Thankfully, he had already had lunch and fell asleep on the way home so all I had to do was undress him and put him in his crib and he slept for 2.5 hours!  Momma got stuff done!  I didn't finish it all but most of it was done.  I made sure I was super organized this year.  Wednesday was supposed to be an all day Netflix movie day with my mother, my sister and my nieces.  Well since Zachary had to be home for 24 hours, that day was off.  The next morning, Zachary was able to go to daycare since he hadn't had a runny poop since the previous morning so they said he was fine to go in.  Yeah!! Movie day is a.... No go.... I somehow gave my mother and sister the flu.  Go me!  Let's make my sister sicker than she needs to be!  So I came home and go to have my "me" day.  I got down with Downton quite quickly as I kept thinking my phone was going to ring for me to go get one or multiple of my children.  The phone didn't ring and I got a full day off! Can you believe it?!?  It felt awesome but I felt so guilty at the same time... Thursday I finished the sale stuff and got some Jamberry work done and Friday I had a nice morning tea date with Alicia, had a surprise lunch date with my husband and did more Jamberry work in the afternoon.  All in all, it was a good week, I got to relax and got a lot of stuff done.  You would think I'd be well rested for my return to work tomorrow but we ended up at the ER with Jacob who ended up spending most of the night in our bed.  Poor little buddy fell (from his knees, like they do a thousand times a day) but he got really drowsy and pale and just wasn't himself so we got scared that he hit his head in just the wrong way.  After calling telecare and being advised to go get him checked out (isn't that what they always say?), Jacob proceeds to throw up.  This is when I get really nervous that he gave himself a concussion or something... Get to the ER, we get through super quick, get an X-Ray and are out of there within 3 hours.  Nothing showed on the X-Ray and Jacob had re-gained color and was acting like his good old monkey self by the time we were sent home.  The doctor said to keep an eye on him to make sure he didn't throw up again and to go home.  Hence why he spent the night in our bed.  By 4am, confident that he was fine and having only maybe slept 3 hours total, my little man went to his own bed.  Last night, Samuel woke us up at 3am and he got some time in our bed.  I am really hoping that I get a full nights sleep tonight but who knows... this whole time change thing might mess with them.  But here's to hoping!

I hope you all had a great March Break and let's hope Spring comes to us soon!  Here are some pics:

Getting ready for the sale

The tire piece that made my husband lose his wheel while working around Truro... Thankfully he's ok!

I have no idea what this is, but it doesn't look good

My mom was at my house helping with the other boys while we were at the ER with Jacob and she asked for a picture.  Jacob was busy crying his eyes out while getting his xray so I sent her this.

This is what she WANTED to see...

Samuel was so tired, he almost fell asleep watching TV while sitting super comfortably on this toy car

Jacob & Mommy selfie

The boys watching "Baby Babble".  Still the only show that will calm them down at anytime.

Daddy and Zachary had gone shopping so I was a "twin" mommy for an hour.  SO MUCH EASIER! lol

My awesome new wine glasses that I was able to get with my Jamberry money!! Yes, one has already been used...

This is from last week's walk

Jacob wouldn't stop crying and we were wondering why... poor little dude couldn't see... hehe

I caved and got them mini hockey sticks at the store this morning

They played more "Let's hit stuff" and "Oo! A new chew toy" than hockey though...

Sam's the only one who almost has it down

Zachary had such a good happy day today!

My mom came to visit

Samuel getting some Mamie love

Jacob loving the camera, as always!

Thank you!!

Firstly let me say THANK YOU so much for your support of my sister.  She was so overwhelmed with the messages of love and support that she needed to unplug for a day to let it all sink in.  Like I mentioned, she is a very private person and the blog just blew up her world for a few days.  She is very thankful to all of you (there are 1700 people who have read the blog!!!!) and she is confident that she has helped at least one person and for that, she's happy to have made the decision to let me share.  One of her friends even messaged her to tell her that her story gave her a wake up call, she realized that although 38 is young, no one is immune.  So thank you thank you thank you for your shares, for your love, for your thoughts and prayers, every ounce of positive energy sent her way is what will keep us all going, especially her.  If you're wondering how she's doing, please know that she's home recovering really well.  She is strong and healthy and that part of her is fighting this evil like nobody's business (must have been all that kickboxing you did sis!).   I'll keep you updated on her as much as she'll allow.  For now, just keep sending her all your positivity and pray for good news.

I'm sure you're also wondering what kind of adventures the boys have been getting into right?  Well not much honestly... lol.  We took a trip to the ER with poor Sam who not only had breathing issues, but added an ear infection to this, so we had quite a sick little boy on our hands.  The other two's nose have been leaking like faucets for the last two weeks but I guess that's "WELCOME TO DAYCARE" days!  They are adjusting to daycare quite well, hardly ever crying when we drop them off which is great.  We found that they are getting so used to the daycare schedule that the home schedule is all messed up now.  Last weekend was so rough on naps!  We actually tried to put them down three times both days and they were still sooooo tired so this weekend we tried adapting to the daycare schedule... which means ONE NAP!! EEEEKKK!!!  I have no idea what they do all morning to keep them occupied so they don't fall asleep!  We went for a visit at my sister's and we left at 10 because the boys could hardly keep their eyes open.  They fell asleep right away in their car seats on the drive home and THIS morning, we all went grocery shopping and the moment we got back in the car after, they were OUT!  Maybe they sneak in cat naps at daycare when the workers aren't looking??  Anyways, it wasn't that bad, they slept in the van, had their little cat nap to get them to their real nap and slept about two hours both days.  This schedule throws us off too because we were used to having "us" time for at least an hour in the morning and we've lost that so now we have to get all our "us" stuff done in their afternoon nap.  I realize how that sounds but get your mind of the gutter, I meant getting my Jamberry stuff done (new catalogue btw!!! New Catalogue) and Gabe's trips to various man stores.  Although we're losing an hour for our stuff in the morning, we're actually happy because we're gaining a whole morning with them where we can actually go out and do stuff.  Now that their afternoon nap is also earlier, they get up earlier which also opens up outside activity time in the afternoon.  We were able to go for a walk today with the boys in their little sleighs and it was so much fun!  It's also nice that the weather is getting better!  It's annoying that it takes 20 minutes to get them ready and out the door but once we're where we're going, it's great.  I was looking at all the fun March Break activities this week and it gets me excited for when the boys are older and semi self-aware that I'll be able to bring them places and have fun with them.  This week, for selfish and routine reasons, the boys will be going to daycare.  Judge me if you must but first of all, if you've been following my blog, you know that routine and procedures are what keeps my boys in line and so I don't want to disrupt something they only started getting used to a little while ago. Secondly, we pay for it, we pay a LOT for it.  And lastly, I will also get to enjoy some time for me, some time to get ready for the Moncton Multiples consignment sale, time to spend with my sister, and time to clean.

Here are some pics!

So many stairs to climb at Sondra's house!! Don't give up boys!!

We are trying to let them use spoons...

It's going great

Sorry so blurry... Zachary's new walking stick (better for our backs!)

Nothing much cuter than a sleeping baby... we hated to wake him up but routine made us do it.

New "twin made into triplet" sled.  They actually stayed in without being strapped in!

Sam's snowpants make him look like he's got huge legs!

Mr. Puffy man

He hardly ever lets go of his new dodo and thumb now... this is new

Watching Cars with the boys

I should say, "Daddy is watching Cars"

Did I tell you about this kitchen??  My secret triplet momma sister sent it to me in the mail!!! WHAT the WHAT?? Thanks SS!

They are starting to play so well together, sometimes even laughing together, it's so cute.  Unless they're biting or hitting... no so cute.

I was playing around with the camera and it decided to highlight just the yellow parts

This shirt looks so good on Zachary

Happy Sam

They love the "find the Cheerio" game!   They're even finding random ones on each other's bums once in a while...

Rub a dub dub three monkeys in a tub!  They love bath time!
Another pic from our book club ladies and their family brunch play date we had at Sondra's.  So much fun!  Can you believe that when we started our book club, there was one child, now there are 17 with an 18th (and maybe more, hopefully not mine though) on the way!
Have a good week y'all, and thanks again for all your support for my sister and myself.  <3
